A michigan man has been indicted for the 2014 hack of the university of pittsburgh medical centers (upmcs) hr databases and theft of employees personal information information that he allegedly wound up selling on the dark web to crooks who used it to file thousands of bogus tax returns. Serious concerns raised by upmc's april announcement that hackers had stolen 27,000 employees' personal information from its payroll system are only heightened by word that all of upmc's 62,000.
The healthcare giant says that around 25,000 patients may have had their personal information exposed in a breach that was caused by a software but through itx, the company they use for billing.
