Build the silo first in stardew valley.
Once you have a silo, any grass that's scythed down has a chance of becoming hay and being automatically placed into the silo.

Silo supplies are dispensed within the coop/barns, you have to extract from there and place it on the bed/bench inside.
The silo is ideal to get first because then as you cut down grass it automatically converts to animal food and is stored in the silo for easy retrieval inside a coop or barn.
Otherwise you have to buy the feed elsewhere and carry it around for placing inside the feed bins, or let your animals out to eat free range grass.
I've heard about building the silo first a lot, but not really agree.
I prefer to simply build a coop or barn first.
The point is that it is only necessary for the winter, as you want to harvest the hay before winter and you do want to ensure animals are fed in winter.
I have 1 deluxe coop with the silo next to it but i think the silo looks really ugly.
Can it place it somewhere else or does it have to be near to use the hopper?
The silo is a type of farm building purchasable from robin at the carpenter's shop.
It takes two days to build.
When complete, it stores hay from grass cut on the farm.
Each silo can store up to 240 hay.
