When complete, it stores hay from grass cut on the farm.
As with most farm buildings, to build a silo, just head to robin's carpenter shop in the mountains.
You'll only need a few things that are relatively easy to obtain:
Stone can be found by smashing rocks with a pickaxe, and digging in the soil or tilling it with a hoe will yield clay.
All you need for them to work is to fill them up, either by using a sith on grass or buying hay from marleen, then inside your barn or coop you will see a box thingy with hay coming out from it, you click on it and you will grab the hay you need for that building.
Build a silo when you do have the resources.
