Mochi donuts, also known as poi mochi, are a fusion pastry crossing traditional american doughnuts and japanese mochi.

The mochi donuts hybrid batter makes for a doughnut that is fluffy and moist, with a satisfying chew.

Once cooked, it is placed in a large wooden mortar where it is beaten with a huge mallet, just as it was done 200 years ago.

The quick, sharp blows make the mochi soft and elastic, but with a firm texture.

So mochi ice cream (can be found in most grocery stores in us) is different taste than american mochi snacks and way different than sweet red bean paste mochi.

All in all, i like rice and mochi, what is inside of it makes or breaks it and i think americans don't normally love the more subtle taste vs it being a sweet or sour food on its own.
