In the warmer seasons, your animals can graze outside to stay fed, so long as there is some long grass they can access.
However, you can also feed them by placing hay in the feed trough inside barns and coops.
They hold all the grass you cut as hay.
You access said hay through the fodder bins in every animal barn/coop.
If all silos are full, no hay is cut via sycthing.
It simply removes the grass.
When you collect sodder/feed it automatically goes into the silo.
Once you have a silo, any grass that's scythed down has a chance of becoming hay and being automatically placed into the silo.
Interacting with the silo just shows it's capacity.
Silo supplies are dispensed within the coop/barns, you have to extract from there and place it on the bed/bench inside.
You only need to have a single silo near the farmhouse to check your current amount of hay, since right clicking any will show the total amount of hay stored added up for all silos.
So any extra silos can be built elsewhere in the farm where they are out of the way and don't use up necessary space.
