A family was trying to do something nice for their daughter, responding to an ad on the site for an apartment to rent.

Unfortunately, the thing that got their attention was the fact that the apartment was listed at such an affordable rate.

This is also very thing that should have tipped them off that something wasnt right.

Sadly, they didnt sort.

What are some rental scam methods that someone you know has fallen victim to?

Do you know of a site that will let you search an address and obtain owner information like what is provided in the thread below?

So i've been checking out craigslist and i'm shocked at some of the low prices (like a 3 bed 2 bath house for rent for $1200?

How is that legit?) i know some of the listings may be scams, and i've heard horror stories about craigslist (hence the reason i was hesitant), but there seems to be a lot of low priced rentals.

When in doubt, use google reverse image search to check for pilfered listings.

Demand a real phone number and opportunity to speak to them.

Craigslist has essentially become useless, its 95% scams.
